“Had an amazing time last month in Egypt! Everything you have seen growing up as a child watching TV shows and movies, mummies, the pyramids, the Sphinx, finally seen in person for real.   We were able to secure a private dehabiya of all doctors for a luxurious cruise on the Nile.  We started in Cairo and visited the museums including the new Grand Egyptian Museum, visited the pyramids and the Sphinx, then took a flight to Luxor. Because our flight changed to an earlier departure we were able to squeeze in a bonus tour of Dendera Temple, then took a hot air balloon over the Nile and the Valley of the Kings (including King Tut’s tomb), then visited the tombs, cruised down the Nile with All inclusive gourmet meals on our private dehabiya, then ended up in Aswan.

Some of us extended our trip and spent more time afterwards on a beach resort in Sharm El Shiekh or Hurghada, and my partner and I did a few more days in Siwa, Egypt’s first oasis and where Alexander the Great was coronated.

Is it safe? Yes. We weren’t sure when we planned to go last year but having a connection to a tour company run by a friend’s friend’s husband really assuaged any concerns, and at all times we had private security accompany us (who also doubled as an interpreter and helped me retrieve a lost phone on the bus and lost luggage at the airport).

Finally able to check this off on the bucket list but likely returning. During our time there, archaeologists just discovered another royal tomb just beyond the Valley of the Kings and made world headlines as the last tomb of the 18th Dynasty since King Tutankhamun’s 100 years ago.”
